Somali pasta dishes

Ingredients:

  • 12 oz spaghetti or penne
  • 1 lb ground beef or chicken
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 bell pepper, chopped

Preparation:

  • Cook pasta: Boil pasta in salted water according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • Cook sauce: Heat oil in a skillet. Sauté onion until soft. Add beef or chicken, tomatoes, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, and bell pepper (if using). Cook 10 minutes until meat is done.
  • Combine: Toss pasta with sauce.
  • Serve: Serve hot, optionally with a side of banana (a Somali tradition).
