A smooth, sweet custard infused with mango, popular as a refreshing dessert in Somali cuisine. It’s chilled and served in bowls or glasses.
Ingredients:
- 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and pureed (or 1 cup mango puree)
- 2 cups whole milk
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp ground cardamom
- Chopped pistachios, for garnish
Preparation
- Make custard base: In a saucepan, whisk cornstarch with ¼ cup milk until smooth. Add remaining milk, sugar, and cardamom. Heat over medium, stirring constantly, until it thickens (5-7 minutes).
- Add mango: Remove from heat. Stir in mango puree and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Chill: Pour into bowls or glasses. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- Serve: Garnish with pistachios before serving.
