Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is a politician and academic who has served as the president of Somalia since May 2022, with a previous term from 2012 to 2017.
Prior to his presidency, Mohamud was a prominent academic, serving as professor and dean at Mogadishu’s Simad University, which he co-founded.
He is also a co-founder of the Peace and Development Party (PPD). Mohamud’s leadership has focused on national reconciliation, security, and rebuilding Somalia’s institutions amidst ongoing challenges.
He holds degrees from the Somali National University and Bhopal University of India.
