Aden Abdullah Osman Daar, also known as Aden Adde, was the first president of Somalia from 1960 to 1967.
He was born in central Somalia and was orphaned at an early age and raised by members of his extended family and clan.
He was a member of the Somali Youth League and the country’s Legislative Assembly.
Aden Adde was defeated in the 1967 presidential election by Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, his former prime minister.
