Mango labaniyad (Creamy custard)

A smooth, sweet custard infused with mango, popular as a refreshing dessert in Somali cuisine. It’s chilled and served in bowls or glasses.

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp ground cardamom
  • Chopped pistachios, for garnish

Preparation

  2. Add mango: Remove from heat. Stir in mango puree and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Chill: Pour into bowls or glasses. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  4. Serve: Garnish with pistachios before serving.
