Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency internet is now available in Somalia after SpaceX was given a licence to operate in the country.
“Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency internet is now available in Somalia,” SpaceX owner Elon Musk & Starlink said on X (formerly Twitter)
SpaceX received an operational licence from the Somali National Communications Authority in April.
Somalia is now the company’s 25th African market.
SpaceX says it hopes to expand internet access to remote regions in Somalia.
Somali ambassador to the US Dahir Hassan said “Somalia welcomes Starlink’s initiative to expand connectivity across the country”.
“Bridging the digital divide is essential for fostering economic growth, improving education, and driving innovation,” he added.
“Rural and coastal communities will greatly benefit from this effort.”
